A Community of Gamers

Open betas are everywhere in the MMO community and since I’ve got no ongoing subscription I decided I wanted to try one out.  Mortal Online sounds like a game I could get into, I didn’t know much about it other than it was mentioned to me a few times awhile back.  It’s a sandbox style MMO which excites me because the current market is all about the themepark style where there isn’t a single thing the player can do to change a blasted thing.  So thanks to Massively.com’s BetaWatch I have a list of betas I can check out at my leisure.  So let’s check out Mortal Online

Todays’ massively multi-player games seem to be missing the point as soon as they add the RPG designator to their world.  For those that are unfamiliar with that acronym is stands for Role Playing Game, which means people are able to role play what they want.  Which gives you a false sense of possibilities within the game when you forge no individual storyline, you cannot influence, shape or form any portion of the game world.  So I want to encourage you to think about what you want in a MMORPG and share it with us.  Read below to read what ideas I have for such a game.

With the incoming release of Star Trek Online I’ve decided to write a little something about the Sci-Fi genre and it’s potential impact on the MMORPG community.  Currently developers have more at stake in the fantasy genre with World of Warcraft, Everquest 2 and all those and rightfully so since that group of games seem to pull in the most money.  I feel it’s because they are more accessible than games where you play a character unfamiliar to you, for example every character in most of these fantasy games are upright walking, have two arms and legs and a face with eyes and a mouth.  The human mind seems do dislike things not like itself, so for developers to put you into something unfamiliar to you might immediately effect the amount of subscribers they might acquire.   Now we pull away from all these common and well accepted images to something only powered by the human imagination, to places that we can have true belief might exist out there in the cosmos.  Places we’ve only yet to explore…

Warhammer Online Logo
In the post-WoW era of MMOs’ there are very few games that attempt to deviate from what Blizzard has given the community.  While there are a few things that are obviously staples in all MMOs’ and some copies of WoW related IP, Warhammer Online does it’s best to deliver a darker and unique twist different from anything else on the market.  This is my review of the past two months I’ve been playing.

New Forums

In the spirit of  bringing people together we’ve decided to add forums to our site.  We’ve also decided to open it up to guilds that would like forums without the hassle of dealing with pesky advertisements.  The first guild to have such an honor is Har Forbindelse, a Order guild from the Gorfang server in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.  So come in, register and join the fun and help us populate our boards with good fun and sunshine!

Eve Online
I found my MMO stride in 2004 when a couple of friends of mine got me hooked on Star Wars Galaxies.  I thoroughly enjoyed the game and the idea of thousands of people playing at exactly the same time.  Whether is was crafting armor, entertaining the masses or just going around killing creatures I’m not quite sure, but it got me hooked.  Over the years I have experienced copious amounts of MMO goodness and currently find myself looking for something new and interesting.  Maybe if you read along you might be able to find one that suits you.

WoW Armory
Recently I’ve been playing World of Warcraft and even more recently achieved level 80 on my Undead Priest.  Since I haven’t played a level 80 character I was curious as to what gear I might need.  For a new player level 80 might seem like the end of the game, but that’s not the case in WoW.  Level 80 is when heroic instances, raiding and Arenas begin!  I’d like to present you all with a list of a few websites that will be helpful to you as you progress from fresh 80 to seasoned veteran.

The View from Celondim
It’s been a tough task getting the playtime to get here, but I’ve finally hit level 20.  I’ve met and spoken with the folks in “Massive Hobbits“, which is the guild that was created by the Massively.com community.  The guild as a whole has been progressing pretty well working on Book 1 together and preparing to enter the Great Barrows this weekend.  I’ve got a few notes of my own I’d like to share about how the game plays now as opposed to prior to some recent game patches.

Making Microsoft Windows Safe
Microsoft Windows has tools to make it safer than ever before, however you shouldn’t stop there.  “Making Microsoft Windows Safe” is a new series that I hope will teach people that default settings isn’t the way to go through computing life.  Today’s article will go through how to change your password in Windows.  My demo screenshots are from Windows Vista, but the steps are still the same even if you are still using previous versions.

Blizzcon 2009

I’m a tad late in getting this out, but there was more work involved in getting all the images around than I originally had thought there would be.  Plus, I added in an entire day of flying in there just to make sure I couldn’t get this post done on time.  At least now I can do this post up right and get you some of the information you want to hear.
